The ecstatic crowd on Friday, Oct. 27  lit up the Lion’s Stadium with spirit. Under Coach Andy Sullivan, the team battled Bret Harte with great energy, ending their season at home with a game to remember.

It was very close, neck and neck, spanning nearly the whole game. The Lion team put in all their effort, but alas, the ending score resulted in a win by Bret Harte 40-38. It was an especially special night, marking the last home game of the season and the last game competing in the Mother Lode League.

14 senior football players along with 6 senior cheerleaders, senior Flag girls, and senior band members were recognized after the JV game.

The game was a high point on the Lions’ home field this season, adding to the bittersweet feels for these seniors.

“Playing on my home field for the last time was one of the most exciting football games of my life,”  shared senior Dominic Giambona.

The team ended the season with a bang, and all players put their best out on the field. It was a night to remember, as it was the last night the seniors will play under the Friday night lights.

Junior Christian Sanders was awarded athlete of the week for his performance that night, racking up 4 touchdowns and 180 total yards.

Sanders described it as “the best game of the season.”

Senior Brittany Stewart has been a Linden cheerleader for eight years.

“It was extremely emotional for the entire team, not just the seniors,” said Stewart. “I’m definitely going to miss the bond that we all have, and I’m glad the last home game was a close one because the boys played really well and ended on a good note.”

New head Coach Andy Sullivan reflected on the season, “I think we all learned a great deal about the state of our program this season. There were many challanges. But I believe it was a foundational year.”

Sullivan said, “Next year will be better, for sure, with the change to a new league and many great players returning. I have also heard a lot of talk from athletes who didn’t play this year who want to come out next year. I honestly think we will have a chance to make playoffs next year.”

It has been a memorable season and next year with the league switch our boys of fall will experience something new, but for the rest of us who had to watch the clock run down for the final time, no matter  what the final scores were, this season was and will be truly unforgettable.
