The Linden FFA Chapter had the privilege of participating in the Opening and Closing competition on Wednesday, September 27 at the San Joaquin Fair Grounds.

Other FFA chapters that there included Tracy FFA, Stockton Bear Creek FFA, Tokay FFA, and Lathrop FFA.

Linden took a total of 3 Greenhand teams, 2 Open teams, and 1 Officer team. Greenhand team A ranked bronze, Greenhand teams B and C ranked silver, the open teams ranked gold, and the Officer team ranked gold.

A participant in the Open team, Jenni Sakakura, said “I was very happy when the Sectional Officers announced that my team ranked gold because we practiced really hard for this.”

Another FFA member on the open team, Emily Zmurk, also enjoyed the experience.

“It was a really fun experience, and I was so proud of everyone that went,” said Zmurk. “This was a great start to my senior year in FFA.”

Our Chapter Vice President, Elizabeth Merenda, competed for a second year on the officer team.

“It was a memorable experience for me as an officer,” said Merenda, who has served on the team these past two years. “I got the chance to adapt to a new group dynamic and was very proud that we received a gold rating again.”
