Coach Sam talks strategy during a short huddle.

Varsity boys basketball looks to have an amazing season if Tuesday’s game is any indication of what is to come.  The boys were on fire, hammering Hilmar and bringing home their first win, 90-60.

There was no denying that Hilmar walked onto the court with a definite height advantage, but it soon proved unimpressive against the speed and skill of the Lions.

Junior Jared Dimas  put the first points on the board with a sweet 3-point shot.  And it only got more exciting as the game went on.

Junior Conner Friedman gives much of the credit for the team’s pre-season strength on the court to Head Coach Sam Harrison and his coaching staff.

“This year as a team I feel we will play like no other team has played at Linden under Coach Sam,” said Friedman after Tuesday’s win. “He has put a fire into us and pushes us to our greatest lengths.”

Senior Josh Towers agrees about improvement with their new coach.

“I would say that last year was a lot more laid back and we weren’t conditioned enough,” said Towers,  “but this year we are disciplined and Coach Sam is doing a great job on changing the culture at Linden.”

There was no doubting that the boys are working well as a team, and it showed on the scoreboard Tuesday night.

Towers racked up an impressive 27 points, with Friedman and Mike O’Neal also in double-digits with 16 and 13 points, respectively.

Towers describes the team’s skill by adding, ” I think our team can really shoot the ball and out run other teams, but we struggle when it comes to grabbing boards.  I think we will definitely improve a lot on that down the road.”

The team is driven to succeed and setting high goals for the season.

“This year we hope to accomplish a winning record in league and to change the culture of Linden Basketball,” said Friedman.

The Lions will be back on their home court Dec 12 against Delta Charter.  Let’s pack the gym and show them the support they deserve!
